Palhaço and Andorinha
Monitor Palhaço

Monitor Palhaço was born in Guatemala and raised in Berkeley. He has been training capoeira since 1998 with Omulu Guanabara under the late Mestre Carlos Aceituno. He is known for his excellent berimbau skills and is also one of the premiere drummers in Omulu Guanabara’s sister Brazilian drumming group, Fogo Na Roupa. Palhaço also teaches capoeira and math to middle school students in East Oakland. He also runs and manages the Aceituno Arts Cooperative, a dance and movement studio in the Mission created in continuing the legacy of Mestre Carlos Aceituno. This studio is also run in part with Andorinha and two other capoeirstas, Monitor Sapo and Trovao. Check out the studio at http://www.aceitunoarts.com.

Monitora Andorinha

Monitora Andorinha was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She began capoeira in 1997 while studying at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Upon graduating in 2000, she decided to move to San Francisco to continue training capoeira under the instruction of Mestre Carlos Aceituno and Mestre Preguiça. When not training and teaching capoeira, she is a full time teacher at a residential substance abuse facility. She also runs and manages the Aceituno Arts Cooperative.
